Mobile Recording

Getting started

Install the Logify app on your phone (Android or iPhone). Then either log in with your existing Logify account or create a new one from within the app — the app also works without a cloud account, but trips won't sync with the web until you connect one. Add a new vehicle in the app, or pick one that already exists on your web account — vehicles sync in both directions.

Recording modes

You can choose a recording mode for each vehicle. Manual start/stop is always available regardless of which mode you choose.

  • Bluetooth handsfree — pairs with the car's own Bluetooth device (e.g. its stereo/handsfree unit). Recording starts when the phone connects to it, and stops when it disconnects.
  • Bluetooth Beacon (iBeacon) — a small USB Bluetooth beacon placed in the vehicle. Recording is based on the phone's proximity to the beacon.
  • Movement detection — no extra hardware needed; uses the phone's motion sensors to guess whether you're moving in a vehicle. This is less accurate than the Bluetooth options — recording may start late or some trips may be missed entirely.
  • Charger detection — recording starts when the phone begins charging (e.g. from a car charger), and stops when charging ends.
  • Manual — you can always start and stop a trip yourself, regardless of which automatic mode is selected.

Categorizing in the app

Newly recorded trips that still need a Trip Type show up in an "Unclassified trips" list. Tap or swipe a trip to assign its Trip Type — if that type requires it, you'll also be asked for a Purpose and/or Category. The same categorization is also available on the web.

Syncing with the web

Sync happens automatically in the background — when you open the app, when a trip ends, or when you pull a list to refresh. New trips recorded on your phone upload to your web account; trips, vehicles, Trip Types, and paired devices sync in both directions. There's normally no separate "sync now" step to remember.
